Sol Alvarez-Taubin is a PhD student in the Energy & Resources Group, and a member of the Climate Futures and Climate Change and Ecosystem Dynamics Labs at UC Berkeley. Motivated by commitments to fostering ecological resilience and affirming community sovereignty, Sol explores how concurrent technical, ecological, and policy interventions can support collaborative governance and climate adaptation planning with Tribal and remote communities. Her current work examines the political economy of state and local approaches to wildfire risk and governance in ex-urban California regions, through interviews, community visioning and validation workshops, and document tracing with community partners. Sol approaches research as a collaborative, participatory, and socially committed practice.

Prior to joining ERG, Sol worked on civil rights, green infrastructure, and workforce programs in local government, and continues to support community adaptation projects through her consulting practice, Greenlight Collaborative. Sol holds a BSE in Environmental Engineering from Princeton University, and an MSW in Advanced Clinical Social Work from Columbia University, both with honors. In her spare time, you can find her swimming, gardening, making ceramics, and cheering on her home country’s national soccer team (vamos Argentina)!
